large format film portraits (click to enlarge)

In tribute to his late uncle, Thomas Azzarello, Marc Pagani has been creating large format film portraits in his studio and on location. These images are shot with cameras built 30-50 years ago that require expertise in shooting 4”x5” sheet film. The film is developed in Marc Pagani’s wet-chemical-process darkroom and is printed using wet-chemical-process trays, and/or is digitally scanned at ultra-high resolution and printed on a large format archival inkjet printer. This process, from the moment a sheet of film is loaded into a film holder to the final water rinse of the prints, is extremely time-consuming and very hands-on. The result is a one-of a kind image that you’ll not find elsewhere in the world of digital, disposable imagery.
